{"id":227,"date":"2012-05-21T13:04:32","date_gmt":"2012-05-21T17:04:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/juliesondradecker.com\/?p=227"},"modified":"2012-08-21T17:01:40","modified_gmt":"2012-08-21T21:01:40","slug":"ready-to-query-so-you-think-youre-asexual","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juliesondradecker.com\/?p=227","title":{"rendered":"Ready to Query: So You Think You&#8217;re Asexual"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>My basic first draft of <em>So You Think You&#8217;re<\/em><\/strong><strong><em> Asexual<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>: An Introduction to the Invisible Orientation<\/em>\u00a0 is complete, though of course there will be lots of updates and changes if I end up finding representation.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be soliciting a test audience if it looks like my book is going to get the kind of interest I want.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>My basic query letter (with personalized agent stuff at the beginning, and modified if needed):<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>What if you weren\u2019t attracted to anyone?<\/p>\n<p>A growing number of people today are identifying as asexual: they aren\u2019t sexually attracted to other people, and they consider it a sexual orientation\u2014like gay, straight, or bisexual.\u00a0 A commonly overlooked and dismissed orientation, asexuality is estimated to affect approximately 1% of the population.\u00a0 However, because of the overt sexuality of society, most asexuals feel isolated and ill-informed; they remain invisible, confused, and think they\u2019re broken because they cannot relate to a central aspect of human life as we know it.<\/p>\n<p>Is it a hormone disorder?\u00a0 Can asexual people have relationships?\u00a0 Should it be cured?\u00a0 This book outlines what asexuality is, counters misconceptions, provides resources, and puts asexual people\u2019s experiences in context as they move through a very sexual world.\u00a0 It includes information for asexual people to help understand their orientation and what it means for their relationships, and it includes tips and facts for those who want to understand their asexual friends and loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>My qualifications for writing this book include the following:<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve been writing about asexuality awareness since 1998.\u00a0 As an asexual person casually writing about my own experience, I posted a Top Ten list outlining the most common misconceptions about asexuality on my own website.\u00a0 This earned me media attention and mainstream magazine interviews (\u201cAsexual and Proud,\u201d Salon, May 2005; \u201cNo Sex?
