{"id":64,"date":"2006-09-28T20:32:34","date_gmt":"2006-09-29T00:32:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/juliesondradecker.com\/?p=64"},"modified":"2012-08-21T17:06:54","modified_gmt":"2012-08-21T21:06:54","slug":"results-of-querying-bad-fairy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juliesondradecker.com\/?p=64","title":{"rendered":"Results of Querying: Bad Fairy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve decided to stop querying for this book because I need to go back to the drawing board based on the feedback I got.\u00a0 (And it wasn&#8217;t unexpected.\u00a0 I know a 255,000-word book has a snowball&#8217;s chance in Hell.)<\/p>\n<p>Of the seven agents I queried, these were the results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 non-response<\/li>\n<li>2 form rejections<\/li>\n<li>4 partial requests<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two of the partial requests turned into full manuscript requests.\u00a0 One of those turned into an overnight rejection because of the length.\u00a0 Well, I can&#8217;t say I&#8217;m surprised.<\/p>\n<p>The relevant part of that letter:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>I love the premise of this tale, and did enjoy the writing, however it is way too long for publication as it exists. And it is not a problem you can fix with a simple solution like cutting one book into two. Then you will not have a story. It needs to be pruned severely so it can blossom. Right now, we see too much of the day to day of Delia\u2019s life and it gets a tad boring. If you can cut it down to 100,000 \u2013 125,000 words or so, an editor might give it a look. Otherwise, you will not even get past step one in the publishing process.<\/p>\n<p>Another alternative is to self-publish and attempt to market it yourself. When\/if you sell a significant number of copies, thus proving to the NY publishers that you have something special, they might give you serious consideration.<\/p>\n<p>Best of luck and please do continue writing.
